1. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

The goal of all Department of Workforce Services Financial Assistance programs is to increase family and individual income by focusing on employment, and where appropriate, child support and disability payments.

Cash assistance combined with supportive services and personalized case management is meant to help families and individuals achieve economic self-sufficiency and enhance the wellbeing of children.

Even if you are not a U.S. citizen, you may be eligible to receive Financial Assistance.

Family is important at the Department of Workforce Services. We are dedicated to working with you and in helping your family move toward self-reliance.

The Family Employment Program is a temporary cash assistance program for families. The program can provide up to 36 months of financial support to a family within a lifetime.

While in the program, we will work together to help you:

  • Gain greater financial independence

  • Learn work skills that may lead to a better paying job

  • Learn valuable life skills

  • Be a positive role model for your children

3. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Home Energy Assistance Target (HEAT) Program – The HEAT Program provides year-round energy assistance and energy related crisis assistance for eligible low-income households throughout Utah.


4. SNAP - The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps)

Basic Information for SNAP Applicants & What SNAP Offers: You may be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program but you need to talk to an eligibility specialist about your eligibility. SNAP offers nutrition assistance to buy healthy food. Most households must spend some of their own cash along with their SNAP benefits to buy the food they need.

5. Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC)

Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) is a nutrition program that helps families learn about healthy eating through nutrition education, counseling, nutritious foods, and help accessing health care. These services are provided to low-income women, infants, and children through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program, popularly known as WIC.

Child Nutrition Programs help to ensure the children of Utah have adequate access to safe and nutritious foods. Meeting this basic need is essential to their establishment of a healthy eating pattern and development of a strong foundation for academic achievement.

7. Medical Assistance

Medicaid is a state/federal program that pays for medical services for low-income pregnant women, children, individuals who are elderly or have a disability, parents and women with breast or cervical cancer. To qualify, these individuals must meet income and other eligibility requirements.

8. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Utah Parent Center – The mission of the Utah Parent Center is to help parents help their children, youth and young adults with all disabilities to live included, productive lives as members of the community. We accomplish our mission by providing accurate information, empathetic peer support, valuable training and effective advocacy based on the concept of parents helping parents. (The term parent is broadly defined to include anyone serving in that role.)

Baby Watch – The purpose of the Baby Watch Early Intervention Program is to enhance early growth and development in infants and toddlers, who have developmental delays or disabilities or both, by providing individualized support and services to the child and their family.

9. Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting

Office of Home Visiting is a program within the Utah State Department of Health. We work with local Health Departments and not-for-profit agencies to provide home visits to pregnant women and young families who would like to know more about being parents. Home Visitors are well trained and can provide information about breast feeding, toilet training, nutrition, home safety, child development and much much more. Home visits are tailored to the needs of the families being served. They are designed to be conducted in the home of the family, however, they can be done in an office, park or where ever Mom and the baby are most comfortable.

10. Child Care Payment Assistance

Child Care Assistance programs help parents cover the cost of child care. Once approved for Child Care, the payment is sent directly to the provider selected by the parent.
